Jeez, it’s been a while. I’m hoping to post more, more often. I’m in good spirits today and not particularly angry about anything in particular. Of course we’re in the thick of political season so there’s plenty of cannon fodder. My latest favorite is from Megadeth Dave Mustaine who during a concert August 7 in Singapore stated that President Obama was behind the recent shootings in both Denver and Milwaukee. Hey, did I mention Minnie (one of our aussies) was skunked. Always happens at night. Duh! After I cleaned her up (in the driveway at 10:30PM) she was off to the groomer for a professional deodorizing. That almost worked but the smell still lingers. At any rate, this prodded us to send all three to the groomer. 3 beautiful girls all at the same time! Groomed within a week. This has got to be some kind of record. Cheers!

More and more health experts advise eliminating processed foods in our diets. The center isles of the supermarket. I for one am guilty of purchasing (and eating) these foods at times but for the most part have given them up. Anything edible that has a shelf life of a month or two can’t be good. So, lately I’ve given up convenience for health. Going to the market more often, buying fresh and fresh frozen foods, organic when possible. Sure, these products rarely last as long, at times cost a bit more and necessitate more frequent shopping, but they don’t come with preservatives and chemicals I can’t pronounce. They’re fresh. Fresh tastes better and for me is worth the extra effort. When did this country decide that it’s better to produce a lot of poor quality food for the masses? Profit no doubt. Smaller is better. Small is more control, more quality and supports local growers. It’s Small means more control, more quality and supports local growers. Treating the animals we eat humanely. Small is buying local from locals and eating food that’s in season. Countless farmer’s markets offer locally grown food direct from the source. What could be bad about that? Support the local economy by buying fresh. Life’s to short to eat bad food. I’m all in.

As President Obama has officially released his “long form”” birth certificate it’s curious why so many american have sipped the Kool-aid. In an article from CNN (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42779923/ns/politics-white_house/) it states…

“In recent weeks, public opinion polls have shown a striking number of Americans, especially Republicans, who said they could not be sure that the president was born in the United States.”

Another poll showed most Republicans, no matter where they were born, don’t realize Hawaii is a state.

I have three dogs, of which two were adopted locally. Neither of them were 100% when we first took them in. With a lot of work and kindness (ye folks, it takes time to be a responsible owner and have animals that are obedient) both Roxie and Minnie have come a long way. Today, there are a multitude of rescues with every breed you can think of. But many shelters are “kill shelters” and these animals are most at risk of euthanasia. Why not adopt a dog or cat today and have a friend forever while saving their life. Here’s what the ASPCA had to say regarding facts & figures.

Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Shelter intakes are about evenly divided between those animals relinquished by owners and those picked up by animal control. These are national estimates; the percentage of euthanasia may vary from state to state.

According to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy (NCPPSP), less than 2 percent of cats and only 15 to 20 percent of dogs are returned to their owners. Most of these were identified with tags, tattoos or microchips.

Only 10 percent of the animals received by shelters have been spayed or neutered. About 75 percent of owned pets are neutered.
